THY Cross Schools Educate Their Peers on Dangers of Drugs During National Drug Facts Week • 3/22/2

March 22nd-March 26th, 2021

Teens for Healthy Youth Members at Cross Schools educated their peers on the risks of drugs during National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week. Posters were created and posted throughout the school promoting National Drug Facts Week. A video was shown to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students during homeroom, which highlighted National Drug Facts Week and promoted the upcoming LCAHY/THY May Day 5K Race. A Kahoot from NIDA for Teens was played with 7th, 8th, and 9th-grade students that educated youth about the risks of e-cigarettes, alcohol, and other drugs. THY members distributed Drug Fact Cards to 7th, 8th, and 9th-grade students and their teachers. The fact cards contained facts about drugs and alcohol from NIDA’s website and encouraged teens to be “Smarties and not Dum Dums”. See pictures of fact cards below. This activity reached 30 seventh graders, 35 eighth graders, and 23 ninth graders. THY at Cross Schools plans to do more peer-to-peer education this spring.
