LowCountry Alliance for Healthy Youth Reaches Out to the Hispanic Community at Vaden Nissan & Bluffton Self Help Event
The LowCountry Alliance for Healthy Youth staffed an information table at the Fiesta Drive, a community event sponsored by Vaden Nissan Hilton Head and Bluffton Self Help, a local non-profit. The purpose of this event was to introduce the Hispanic community to several local businesses and nonprofits and the services they provide. This also provided an opportunity for these local businesses and nonprofits to network. Lowcountry Alliance for Healthy Youth (LCAHY) table was staffed by a Bluffton High school Teens for Healthy Youth (THY) member, Lucia Valladares, and her mother, Patricia Valladeres Fuentes, along with DFC Grant Coordinator, Blanca Aranda and LCAHY’s consultant, Dr. Novince.
Prevention resource materials in English and Spanish were distributed to attendees. The event provided LCAHY the opportunity to showcase the coalition’s mission and highlight prevention resources. There was much interest in learning more about LCAHY and its youth coalition, Teens for Healthy Youth. Bluffton Self-Help plans to distribute LCAHY’s Year-Round Rx Drop Location Fact Card at their local offices. Several individuals requested information on how to become involved in the coalition and LCAHY’s youth coalition, Teens for Healthy Youth. Lucia’s father, Mario Valladeres, joined his daughter at the event while she and her mother staffed the event table. The father owns a local remodeling company, Quiroz Remodeling, which was a silver sponsor of LCAHY May Day 5k 2022 Race.
